Section 6: Network protocols used to connect clients with the web server.

The protocol you use to connect your computer to the Internet via a modem (dial-up) or cable or DSL line (always on) is part of what is called the TCP/IP protocol suite, also known as IP networking. TCP/IP has been in use since the 1970s, but was not standardized until 1983. The term TCP/IP can be used to refer to all protocols that are used in this protocol suite, but it typically refers to only one protocol, TCP, which stands for Transmission Control Protocol. There are other protocols besides TCP that are part of the IP networking suite.
